Our Story

Matt's Patch began in the Spring of 2020 when Matthew turned a lifelong love of and interest in gardening into a mini business operation growing and selling plant starts in the front yard at his parent's home in Enfield, Connecticut.

In February 2021 Matt's Patch officially became Matt's Patch LLC and simultaneously expanded the varieties offered from about a dozen to hundreds of flowers, vegetables, tomatoes, and peppers sold to local gardeners in the area. Seeing the market for online sales and local delivery amid the COVID-19 lockdowns Matthew expanded the "farm stand" to offer local delivery to surrounding towns in Connecticut and Southern Massachusetts.

In 2022 Matt's Patch continued to expand our warm weather crop selection, adding even more tomato and pepper varieties while culling out our low performers to ensure the best growing experience for our friends and neighbors. It was also this year that we shipped our first mail-order pepper plants, discovering growers across the country who loved unique varieties of peppers and tomatoes as much as us.

In 2023 we continued to curate our online warm-weather plant selection while expanding shipping nationwide. During this time we also maintained our local stand and continued to sell plants and produce at various farmer's markets in the area.

In 2024 the online plant business saw rapid growth, forcing us to move some pepper and tomato starts indoors to meet the increased demand that was forecasted by early season sales. We adjusted shipping methods to reduce shipping weights and associated costs for our customers without compromising plant strength and health following trials during the 2023 shipping season. To further assure plant quality we also have begun taking steps to produce and harvest our own seeds to hedge against the peppergate challenges that emerged for small gardeners over the past couple of years. This change has also allowed us to begin selling seeds of our own in the Winter of 2024. Matt's Patch was also able to partner with a local wholesaler to carry bulbs for Spring and Fall planting in 2024.

Today Matt's Patch LLC is proud to offer a thoughtfully curated selection of high-quality plants, seeds, seedlings, and fresh produce. Our mission is to provide both novice and experienced gardeners with access to easy-to-grow vegetable and flower varieties that yield great results, whether you're looking to fill your garden with beautiful blooms or grow fresh, delicious food. We carefully select every item in our collection to ensure that they are not only productive but also well-suited for gardeners of all skill levels, making it easier for everyone to enjoy the benefits of gardening.

Looking forward to the 2025 growing season we're adding four additional greenhouses to ensure our plants are grown in an ideal environment for strength and resilience. These additional greenhouses will also allow us to better meet the demand for our early spring, spring, and fall plants on a schedule that is better tailored to you and your growing zone. We're taking measures to produce and offer even more of our own seeds. Finally, we're considering options to offer our niche and unique produce to customers beyond just those at our local farmer's markets.
